The Patagonia area of South America was the winning location for a worldwide survey that asked people to vote for the 8th wonder of the world, if there was one. It truly deserves that accolade. The area is located along the border of Argentina and Chile. It includes the third largest ice field in the world. Many glaciers are still there from the ice age. As the glaciers began to recede 10,000 years ago, they carved “U” shaped passes in the mountains and formed the many lakes with melting glacial water.
This particular image shows a lot of details. The color of the lake signifies it was created by a melting glacier as the granite that washed from the peaks in the background is in the lake and is responsible for the greenish cloudy color. The mountains in the background contain the well known peaks named “Los Cuernos”, or “The Horns”.
Torre Del Paine National Park in Chile is a fantastic place to visit, hike, and camp if you are ever in that area....
Two of my passions are traveling and photography. I caught the traveling bug when I was in the military. The love for photography actually developed when I was trying to capture memories of my children as they were growing older.
