Description
This photograph was taken while boating near Chiloe Island in Chile. The Steamer Duck is a flightless duck that uses its wings as a paddle to get around as opposed to flying. Only one of the many various types of Steamer Ducks flies. They can be aggressive and very protective of their chicks when threatened. They like to nest and raise the chicks on small rocky outcrops just off the shore.
